Great Day Saturday

What great weather we had yesterday for our trip to Corn Dawgs
The girls from the photos I took had a great time

They worked together on their compass work and getting through the maze. I will hand out on Nov. 7th their additional work for the try-it or Badge they are working toward.

The girls also did their first community service project. They cleaned up the maze, picking up trash (paper, old maps, and bottles). They were rewarded by the staff at CDs with some silly bands. Which they took the extra one and gave it to two children in wheelchairs on our way out.

They worked on team work to get everyone swinging together on the big swing. They worked together to cover each other with corn.

Here are some photos of the girls: needless to say there are none of the adults... there are more photos and I will try to get them uploaded soon.

October 17, 2010 meeting

I was truly impressed with the number of girls who already know their Girl Scout Promise.. Great job.
They all did great making their Scout bags to carry their books. We talked about making healthier snacks.... for snack time. Went over the scout law, talked about badges. Nov. 7th I will go over things they can do at home to work on badges. Sydney spent over an hour tonight working on her Computer Smart badge and her directional badge.. let your child take charge and if she wants to I have some worksheets for you to fill out on what they accomplish.

Permission slips have been sent home for the Corn Dawg Trip (parents are welcome to come along as well as siblings). The girls will be working on some mapping skills using a compass and map.

Please send them with a bag lunch. I will have  a cooler.. (they are kids and they get hungry at least mine do)

Any parent who wants to stay and observe the meetings is welcome to come. We will never have a closed meeting. Also the girls are getting ready to start their first Cermony meeting (Nov. 21st) they will be having their Inception and badge cermony. You will be receiving an invitation from your child.

Here are a few photos I took today, they compact a lot into two hours. If you ever see a photo you want to have a copy of let me know I will email it to you or jump drive it if you can't get a good download.

I also want to thank the parents for their assistance until we become a real troop

Making their bags for their books, Kacey, Lila, and Maggie.
Hannah and Lindsey working hard on their bags
Gabby and Haleigh did a great job on theirs, Ms. Kim our Assistant
Troop  leader did a great job helping the girls out when they needed it.
We did get some outside time for our Friendship circle
and did a Who am I worksheet. Got a lot of girls who like
                                          math and science (awesome)
as well as some play time
                                                  a little duck duck goose

Talk about great news

We now have 9 girls signed up and 2 that are going to sign up. So I think we are on our way to becoming the best Scout troop in the service unit.

I hope you guys had as much fun as I had at our informal gathering on the 3rd.

Welcome Kasey to our soon to be troop she signed up today and Maggie who is about to sign up. So girls keep thinking about what you want to do. What badges you want to go for and remember what you signed up for on the Kaper chart (which I will post by this weekend).

If you have time before the 17th and want to start on your first badge come prepared on the 17th with this info.
1) WHERE ARE THEY TODAY?
past! There are Native people living all over the United States today. Most Native people live in homes like yours, wear clothes like yours, and go to school or work like you and your family do. However, the Cherokee and Muskogee Nations no longer exist in Georgia. Look at a map of Georgia that shows where they once  were. Find out why and how the People were forced to leave Georgia and where most Cherokee and Muskogee live today.
Native people did not just live in the long-ago

I am waiting on the approval of our assistant leader for us to become a formal troop. I have everyones paperwork and will send it to the counsel for approval and a troop number.

On the postive side I spoke with Corn Dawgs and we get a 2 dollar discount (so 10 dollars per person). I will give the complete details out on the 17th. This outing is planned for the 30th with the girls meeting at 10am. They need to bring a bag lunch and drink. I will have coolers in the car.

October 30, 2010

Corn Dawgs
I have a group rate of 10 dollars a person instead of 12...
Registration forms for the trip and details will be distributed on October 17, 2010 for both Corn Dawgs and the Indian Festival.

Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010

What an awesome turn out of parents for the parent meeting.
The informal gathering occurred today from 2-4pm
Eight Scouts, two more that might join and two parents who are volunteering other then the leader to help run the troop.

What the girls accomplished today on their first day:
  1. They decided on their uniforms, Sash's (Junior or Brownie, with tan pants, white shirt for juniors and light blue for Brownies). you can purchase the sash on Girls Scouts of Greater Atlanta web site or email me if you have any questions or want to jump in on my order. I do not have a problem ordering them all together (nymonk15@aol.com)
  2. They constructed a Kaper chart for meetings from now till December (which I will post soon)
  3. They worked on the Girl Scout Promise
  4. Made posters for the Girls Scout Motto and the Girl Scout Slogan (to post in our meeting room)
  5. We learned about the history of scouting
  6. They decided they wanted to work on badges but take some trips too.
  7. They voted for the trip to the Indian Festival at Stone Mountain to help with their Native badge (both Brownies and Juniors)
  8. They also want to go to Corn Dawgs to celebrate the birthday of the founder of Girl Scouts J. Low. This is optional since the troop does not have any funds yet. I will check on the cost and see if we can get a special deal (October 30th)
  9. Either Late November or Early Dec we will be having an award meeting to award the girls their pins for their uniforms. This will take place the last 30 minutes of the meeting if you wish to come and see them be honored as a scout.
  10. They will receive their World pins on Thinking Day Feb 22, 2011 (You will receive an invite to see your child receive her pin)
  11. They learned the Girl Scout handshake and the friendship ring.
  12. Got some fun time on the playground....
From what Ms. Kim and I saw they had a blast. Below you will see in no particular order suggestions the girls listed while doing an exercise. Some are a little to adventurous and expensive but we will consider the more reasonable things to do to learn leadership and growth. The number stands for how many said it.
